The view from here.

Being a feminist is like having tattoos on an obvious part of your body, you know you’ll always be looked down on in certain types of places.  And sometimes that’s half the fun.  To suggest that you are a feminist is to be au fait with a corresponding lip curl.  Or an argument.  Like the word Cunt and the industry therein, it has taken us years a to begin to reclaim the word.  No reclaimation necessary, for my friends it has always been ours.

As a proverbial sapling in this world they call ‘blog’ it seems sensible to begin by making my intentions clear (and relying heavily on spellcheck).  Following a spate of articles/books/inane comments and shallow insights in to what it is to be ‘female’, there has been a dilution of the subject to the point where, like a cheap squash, it has a rather unaccountable but nasty flavour.  We are awash in statistics, and psychological insights that proclaim us either surprisingly like men, or crumbling under the weight of our own desire to vajazzle ourselves while crying in to our childrens hair and bewailing our careers.  Its worth informing you now that I do not have any children, and though I work the word ‘career’ could only be ascribed to my life by others in mocking tones, before we all guffaw.

Therefore, I have decided, albeit humbly that it is time for this woman to write about her life, and corresponding thoughts, in the hope that what emerges is something relateable, something that encourages a connection for me with others on these topics.  Additionally, the more that women come to be humanised through realistic representations of their lives, the more chance everyone in this fucked up world has got of genuinally understanding each other and rubbing along.  With a fair amount of nerves and a modicum of hope, I guess its time to bring it.
